Two women of a certain age with a shared passion for gardening may not be the obvious choice for a crime-solving duo. Yet, Rosemary Boxer and Laura Thyme have an undeniable talent for chasing down clues and getting to the bottom of a case much more efficiently than the police. After meeting through a mutual acquaintance, Rosemary Boxer (Felicity Kendal) and Laura Thyme (Pam Ferris) find themselves in similarly unfortunate situations; Rosemary has just been fired from her position teaching horticultural studies and Laura’s husband has just left her for a younger woman. With newfound freedom and a rebellious attitude, Rosemary and Laura bond over their love of gardening and growing suspicion surrounding the strange circumstances of a friend’s illness. Through persistent digging and helpful knowledge of poisonous plant species, Rosemary and Laura crack the case wide open. From then on, they’re hooked. The pair becomes a team of crime solvers/professional gardeners who stumble upon various murders while tending to the lush gardens of wealthy clients. With a tone similar to Murder She Wrote, Rosemary and Thyme features witty and loveable characters with an enthusiasm for solving mysteries that the audience can’t help but be enthralled with. Felicity Kendal and Pam Ferris shine as bright, bold women who stick to their guns and don’t let anyone talk down to them. Whether it’s confronting a rude police officer or defending themselves against a violent suspect, these two aren’t afraid to take risks and swing big to bring down the bad guys.

Since the series concluded its run in 2006, Ferris and Kendal, now both in their 70s, are in their seventies and have continued acting in film, television and theatre. In 2016, Ferris wrapped her popular role as Sister Evangelina in Call the Midwife and will soon return to the big screen in the upcoming J.R.R. Tolkien biopic. Kendal, who found stardom in the mid 1970s as Barbara Good in the BBC sitcom, The Good Life, has been most recently seen in guest starring roles in series such as Doctor Who and Inside No.9.
